People often say that the environment was made for the use of mankind. Everything—and I mean, everything—is said to be like cake on a platter, waiting to be frenzied upon. Consumed. Ingested. Ravished. Sarap noh? Tanggap ka lang nang tanggap, ang sarap pa! But sooner or later, people will realize this fact: nauubos din pala ang cake. Finite. Limited. Nauubos. My friend, we are in the stage of realization. We have already consumed much of the cake, thus we are finding ways of preserving what’s left and are trying to create new layers: the distinctive icing, the exquisite toppings, and that unique filling.
The Ateneo Environmental Science Society (ESS) is an organization geared towards nurturing the environment through logical environmentalism, awareness, and through the key element: YOU! Ateneo ESS is an organization with members that share a common passion of caring for the environment. It seeks to be not just a group of proactive environmentalists; it also works towards being a circle of friends. The camaraderie it continuously seeks to build among its members every year is one foundation of its successes. This camaraderie nourishes enthusiasm, stimulation of ideas, and willingness of each member to emanate their shared passion outward into society. Our activities range from joining the annual Madlum activitity, to Bataan’s Bantay Pawikan group to save Pawikan turtles, to engaging in the Ateneo Ecocamp, and so much more. The Ateneo ESS is open to everyone who wishes to preserve our one and only environment. Dive in and see that we are not too blue to be green!
